    The flowers of Exomis microphylla var. microphylla grow from leaf axils near stem tips, half-hidden among the leaves. They are minute, yellow in colour and five-pointed in a star-shape, sometimes slightly red on petal tips. The stamens are longer than the petals.

    The plant is said to resemble Manochlamys albicans that bears terminal flower spikes. The leaves seen here are, however, much smaller, although the stem-tip clusters bear a likeness (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Van Wyk and Gericke, 2000; iSpot).
