The upper concave stem leaves near the flowerheads are mostly scale-like, often losing their green colouring. These sparsely branched Edmondia sesamoides stems have dark green, pointed leaves.
All three Edmondia species have their narrow, green, upper leaves pressed tightly against the stems. Whitish woolly stem parts are visible around the leaves that are hairless on their lower surfaces. The margins of the alternate, overlapping leaves are rolled up (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; iSpot).
