Kewa salsoloides in flower

The flowers of Kewa salsoloides, previously Hypertelis salsoloides, grow in sparse umbels on long erect stalks. They are white, pale pink or lilac with rounded petal lobes that hang down. The fragrant flowers exude a honey-scent.

Five narrow oblong and pointed greenish sepals with scattered tiny red dots are noticeable below. When the sepals still clasp the closed bud it is pendulous: the flower only raises itself to an erect position upon opening.

A spreading cluster of stamens with prominent yellow anthers tops the flower around the shorter style, tipped with a five-branched white, pale yellow or green stigma (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; www.namibrand.com).
