Avonia quinaria subsp. quinaria flowers

The flowers of Avonia quinaria subsp. quinaria grow solitary and are quite large for the size of the plant. The drooping, beige coloured, smooth buds turn up upon opening, pointing their open flowers to the sky. In the photo the buds can be seen mostly prostrate, the open flowers being erect.

Petal shape is elliptic to obovate with a slightly noticeable tip. A big cluster of stamens with yellow anthers upon delicate white filaments stand erect over the five pink spreading petals. The style rises above the stamens.

Flowers only open late afternoon on sunny days.
