Augea capensis leaves

The succulent leaves of Augea capensis are smooth and cylindrical with rounded tips. They are alternate, blue-green, becoming yellow when old or stressed. Leaves become about 3 cm long, 1 cm in diameter. The difference between the smooth leaves and the ribbed fruits is clear. 

The water storage capacity of the plant in roots, stems and especially leaves enables it to survive severe droughts. The recovery capacity of A. capensis in responding to rain is remarkably fast (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Swanepoel, JW, 2006, MSc, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus; iSpot).
