Larryleachia cactiformis flower

There is some unevenness or wrinkling inside the corolla of the hairless Larryleachia cactiformis flower, partly caused by the presence of small papillae. The pale creamy yellow surface has blood red lines, blotches and dots of varying size and shape in different parts of the corolla; on the plant in picture these are largest near the base and tips of the lobes. The five corolla lobes are broad-based triangles, their tips spreading or recurving.

The five spreading outer corona lobes visible in the base of the flower cup each consists of a deeply cleft pair of linear, sickle-shaped segments that diverge widely at the base and about touch the tips of the adjacent lobe segments at the top.

The five inner corona lobes form a star, its linear lobes converging in the flower centre over the anthers. Both coronas share the red and cream colouring of the corolla (White and Sloane, 1937; iSpot).
