Faurea galpinii spike of buds

The bisexual Faurea galpinii flowers grow in short-stalked, usually erect, catkin-like spikes at branch-tips. (Several other Faurea species bear pendulous spikes.) The inflorescence becomes about 9 cm long.

The perianth is tubular to club-shaped. There are four stamens with filaments attached to the perianth tube base. The ovary is covered in long, silky hairs and the style is persistent.  

Flowering happens from before midspring to after midsummer.

The fruit is a small nutlet covered in long, white hairs and the style also remains attached, useful for buoyancy in a dispersal flight (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
