Dodonaea viscosa var. angustifolia buds

These green buds of Dodonaea viscosa var. angustifolia seen at Kagga Kamma may reveal male or female flowers. The three to seven sepals are still tightly closed, keeping their secret for now.

The globose to flattened buds are ridged or furrowed from base to tip, also shiny and rough like the leaves (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; iNaturalist).
