At the base of the bigger Greyia sutherlandii leaf in the shade the venation presents an interesting pattern. It is as if a developing midrib attempted domination of the blade but ran out of steam and did not get very far. Thin, straight veins radiate from this thick, pale base. They are cream on the green surface, then branching and disappearing from sight before reaching the margin.

The young leaves in the sun are still downy. The veins that look pale on the leaf in the shade are in sunlight confirmed to be sunken on the upper surfaces (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
