The bark on bigger stems of Rhamnus prinoides is smooth and grey to brown. On old trees the main stems become dark brown.
Young stems are covered in conspicuous, raised, whitish lenticels. Lenticels are airy aggregations of cells within the bark of certain trees.
The wood is whitish, hard and heavy. Big pieces are not often found, as the tree seldom grows very big, reducing the uses of the wood to the manufacture of small household articles (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Pooley, 1993).
