The genus Maerua belongs to the Capparaceae or caper family and is represented in southern Africa by several trees, shrubs and scramblers.
The plant in picture may be Maerua cafra, the common bush-cherry or witbos (Afrikaans). Cafra and caffra are forms of the same word, the spelling error of the first recording of the species persists in the official nomenclature (www.plantzafrica.co).
