Branching on Anthocleista grandiflora happens high up; the early branches low down are long gone on older trees. Branches all arch upwards.
The younger the branch, the bigger the chance that its nodes, where lost leaves had been attached, will be visible. The youngest branches in the photo that have already lost some leaves, are pale brown in colour. Bigger, older branches have pale grey bark.
Mature trunks of this tree may measure 50 cm in diameter (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
