Freylinia lanceolata stem

The erect stem of Freylinia lanceolata, in this case not branched from the base, typically supports a slender crown of drooping upper branches.

When the plant reaches tree proportions the bark may look like this: Initially smooth, rough patches and strips develop from flaking and fissuring. Pale grey to brown colours predominate among a multitude of shades upon the stem.

The young branches sprouting from the base or the stem contrast in their pale greenish brown surfaces. They are much smoother, some opposite leaves spaced along them (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
