Freylinia tropica young stems

When growing well, Freylinia tropica young stems may look like this. Branches will also spread as the plant matures. The branches are sticky when young. They are somewhat four-angled, developing bark that may be different shades of grey or light brown, smooth to rough in surface texture.

The evergreen F. tropica is often seen pioneering disturbed land within the range of its geographical distribution. This plant was photographed in January in the Pretoria National Botanical Garden (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
