Leucosidea sericea leaves

Often blue-green, the aromatic leaves of Leucosidea sericea may also be fresh green to yellow-green, even dark green on forest streambanks and in thickets. The lace-like leaflet margins resulting from deep, regular serration are accentuated by the pattern of the grooves in the centre of each lobe or tooth.

Persistent leaf stipules, some of leaves that are long gone, still clasp the upper twigs, bringing about an image of retaining what other trees might discard. The cluttered look is enhanced by the long silky hairs upon leaf petioles and youngest growth.

Some dried inflorescences are also lingering among the branches in the photo, probably still harbouring the small nuts that normally hide among the old flower remains (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
