Nuxia congesta leaves

The leaves of the evergreen Nuxia congesta grow in whorls of three or four, crowded at stem tips. They are elliptic to almost circular, with or without hairs and variable in shape and size.

The leaf surfaces are leathery, sometimes scaly or sticky and also varying much in texture and colour. Upper leaf surfaces are glossy green, the lower ones paler.

There may be a hair-like tip at the leaf apex or it may be notched. Leaf margins may be entire or coarsely toothed as in the photo. Leaf stalks may be short, only 2 mm or up to 10 mm in length (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
