    Old Rothmannia capensis stems are covered in fairly dark grey-brown bark that becomes rough with age, fissuring finely. Some pale patches are present, although what appears light-coloured in the photo is partly from a lichen covering.

    Crowding of the leaves only near branch tips, leaves also the thin branches bare.

    R. capensis wood is hard and strong. It is used as poles, for building huts, making implement handles and as fuel (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993).
