The stem of Pappea capensis, in Afrikaans commonly the doppruim (husk plum), grows erectly, the habit changing with habitat and climate, particularly the rainfall.
The bark is pale grey to brownish and fairly smooth, sometimes peeling. The small branches are pale grey, often covered in short brownish hairs (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993).
