The small creamy white flower of Dalbergia melanoxylon are shaped similarly to pea flowers. The corolla is narrow, bulging on one side. It has a short green calyx.
The flower is succeeded by a small pod, initially green. The papery pod is oblong in shape with flat sides; thin but for a slight swelling over each seed. Only one or two seeds grow in each pod.
The hairless pods are indehiscent, not bursting open when they become grey-brown and ripen. Fruits may be seen on the trees until early autumn (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Grant and Thomas, 2001; iSpot).
