The inflorescences of Stipagrostis ciliata var. capensis grow in large, open, much-branched panicles, up to 30 cm long.

The straw-coloured spikelets of 12 mm long are stalked, often purplish at the base. The spikelet is three-awned or the awns three-branched and brown in colour. The narrow glumes are as long as the spikelets, the single floret inside bisexual.

The blooming season is often split, occurring from late winter to early spring and commencing again from end summer to early winter in a longer spell (Van Oudtshoorn, et al, 1991; iNaturalist).
