The tips of the cylindrical Micranthus junceus leaves seen near Hermanus during November reach the lowest flowers of their two-ranked spikes. There are bracts below the corollas of all the flowers, clearly visible under the many buds at the spike tips. The still green bracts of the photo may turn brown soon, their margins broad, transparent and membranous.

The blue tepals flare in the open, two-lipped flowers, their bases united in short tubes. The three stamens of each flower arch in unison under the dorsal tepal. The style tip of the bisexual flower is three-branched, each branch tip forked (Manning, 2007; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
