    Schizoglossum hilliardiae is a succulent perennial with narrow, oblong leaves. The leaves have entire margins and prominent, whitish midribs. Leaves are sessile and hairy, as are the cream coloured stems. The flowers are produced in small clusters on long peduncles from leaf axils. The hairy calyces with acutely pointed tips are either green or purple in this photo.

    The genus of Schizoglossum is listed as succulent plants, 27 species of them.

    This plant was spotted in the Mkhomazi Wilderness Area in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg close to the Lesotho border (Smith, 1997; iSpot).
