The leaves of Bolusafra bituminosa are pinnately trifoliolate on longish petioles. The lateral leaflets have no or about no petiolules, the central leaflet has one that is slightly longer.

The ovate to triangular leaflets have entire margins. The central leaflet is symmetrical, the lateral ones not. Parallel lateral veins, slightly sunken on the upper surfaces, curve up or in from the leaflet midribs to the margins. The dark green blades are variably hairy.

Stipules are present at the petiole base (Privett and Lutzeyer, 2010; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; www.fernkloof.org.za).
