Clitoria ternatea flower

The flower colour of Clitoria ternatea, sometimes called the blue pea, is here a deeper blue, particularly on its dominant vexillum or banner petal.

The vein lines are sunken, converging in the white basal section around the other, small and wavy petals. Bracts and the small calyx are visible at the base of the flower tube.

Creamy lateral veins ascend from the leaflet midribs across the smooth blades, curving in before reaching the entire margins.

In India the plant is revered as holy by some and used in rituals (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Blundell, 1987; iNaturalist; Wikipedia).
