The opposite, also decussate leaves of Asystasia gangetica subsp. micrantha or A. intrusa grow well spaced near the tips of the angular, soft stems. The leaves appear quilted here, from bulges between the up-curving lateral leaf vein pairs, seemingly more so on older leaves. The soft blades are sometimes shiny, apparently also as they age (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
