Sphaeropteris cooperi, Australian tree ferns at home

Australia has beautiful indigenous tree fern species, like Sphaeropteris australis, the rough tree fern, and previously Cyathea cooperi, common in Victoria and New South Wales.

S. cooperi, the lacy tree fern or Australian tree fern seen here, is more prevalent in the northern, warmer parts along the east coast in Queensland, also in New South Wales.

Neither species produces offsets from their stems and roots, like several other tree ferns do. These two are therefore incapable of vegetative propagation; only growing from spores. Both species grow tall, are hardy and commonly grown in parks and gardens (Wikipedia).
