Aloe perfoliata stems, up to 2 m long, may be missed at first glance as they are typically decumbent on the rocks.
Only the bit near the rosette may be erect, keeping up appearances of not slouching in public, as mothers tend to ensure in their children when church sermons drag on a bit. Some rosettes may be decumbent as the stems, appearing to lack discipline. Some mothers also lose vigilance as the words conjure images that make the mind wander or lassitude sets in.
Dead leaves persist on the lower stems of this Aloe (Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist).
