The rankbietou, as Dimorphotheca fruticosa is commonly known, is an impressive natural groundcover in areas close to the sea. Dense bright green foliage and a generous offering of white daisies are produced throughout winter and spring, whatever challenges the weather might pose.
Not only does it cover rocky and sandy patches just above the high-water mark and further inland along the South African southern and eastern coastline, but it rambles robustly over sand, debris and shrubbery to make gardens out of eyesores without help.
