Phaenocoma prolifera, tallest for a while

The most conspicuous plant in a particular part of the fynbos depends on the time of year, what flowers then, plant heights, and how old the veld is after the last fire. It also depends on the altitude, direction in which a slope is facing, soil, and rainfall. One never visits the same fynbos twice, although one may frequent the same spots.

On this piece of land at Salmondsdam during January the Phaenocoma prolifera shrublets caught the eye in a year when some other, normally taller shrubs were still small in young veld after a fire (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
