The Jonkershoek valley near Stellenbosch is home to some of the Cape’s special fynbos plants. The Jonkershoek Nature Reserve and Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve ensure conservation for them. The mountain fynbos that lives here comprises more than 1100 species, some of them endemic to the area and some rare (www.capenature.co.za).

This stand of Phylica pubescens flowering creamy yellow on the slope below the fire lookout building was photographed in July.
