    The stony, bare ground of Northern Cape semi-desert near the lower Gariep is generally daunting, but a good place to find healthy specimens of Dinteranthus microspermus subsp. puberulus.

    The plant is clearly coping with its environmental challenges here in April close to Pella. The quartzite and other pebbles of this region have an attraction of their own... not too far from where so many alluvial diamonds have been retrieved for such a long time already (Cowling and Pierce, 1999).
