Ruin this from a distance?

The earth is beautiful wherever nature is undisturbed by human activity. Leaving some parts of the environment pristine is a commendable practice. Many people share sentiments of this sort without necessarily committing to any action.

But exactly what does protecting this spot achieve if water, air and temperature changed by actions taken far away may kill it? Pollution in one place impacts other, even remote places, depending on the kinds of negative actions condoned by society. Think of chemicals, nuclear energy mishaps, acid water from mines, acid rain, etc. 

Animals, birds and insects that live here now may become extinct without any adverse action ever recorded here. And if the pollinators go, some of the plants may go. And if some of the plants go, some... and so forth. 

All of this may become an uninteresting or awkward story among people revelling in progress. They still need the earth to be well though.
