Glottiphyllum suave leaves

The level leaves of Glottiphyllum suave, always found at ground level, are opposite and also distichous, growing in two to four ranks, progressing more outwards rather than up.

Thickly succulent, the pairs are almost equal, while the leaf-shape overall is variable: tongue-shaped as the generic name indicates, but there are clearly many tongues in the world available for copying. Some G. suave leaves are about spoon-shaped, flat on top and keeled below. The leaves are about 2,5 cm wide, often not much longer, while size varies.

The leaves have smooth, sometimes glossy skins, bright green to blue green, purplish or waxy grey. The colour differences are largely seasonal and related to sun exposure, while some also relate to geographic subpopulations.
