Glottiphyllum linguiforme clumping

Glottiphyllum linguiforme is a low-growing, perennial succulent. The short, branched stems produce waxy leaves densely compacted in a spreading clump as seen here. Clumps may become 30 cm in diameter.

This plant was photographed at the Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn where indigenous plant conservation is conducted.

The leaves become notably longer than their width, distinguishing the species from G. carnosum that is otherwise similar. The plants flower in autumn and winter, the yellow flowers reaching 3 cm in diameter (Smith, et al, 1998; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
