Gnidia simplex leaves are stalkless, narrowly lance-shaped to awl-shaped with acute tips and concave upper surfaces. Leaves ascend upon the stems, tending to drop off to expose rough-surfaced bare stem parts lower down, dark brown in colour. The leaves are green or blue-green, sometimes tinged with red.

Young branches and leaves may be hairy (Manning, 2007; JSTOR).
