Gazania pectinata flowerheads are yellow or orange on their elliptic ray florets. The dark marking at the base of each ray has a white spot in the centre of its almost black surroundings. On some plants these markings are faint and inconspicuous.

The central disc is yellow where florets have opened, otherwise black. The involucre is hairless, its inner bracts long, tapering and slender. They have papery margins, joined to each other in their lower halves. The flowerhead stalks are hairy. The flowerhead may be up to 3 cm in diameter.

Flowering happens from late winter through spring (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot).
