This Gladiolus equitans plant was found past flowering and heavily in fruit during August. The flowering season normally ranges from late winter to early spring. Early rain may have sped up the production cycle of the above-ground, annual plant parts.
The large, dark green, glossy fruits are ovoid in shape, in picture still partly covered by the (now drying) pair of keeled bracts that subtended each flower (Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
