    A faint purple band runs down part of the centre of this Gladiolus elliotii flower’s lowest tepal. Apart from some yellow colouring low down on the visible parts of lower tepals, the corolla surface is spotted darkly. The spots occur partly in erratic rows, probably indicating vein lines.

    The visible anthers in picture are oblong and dark, on this plant usually mauve (Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; Pooley, 1998; Lowrey and Wright, 1987).
