Grewia robusta leaves

The alternate leaves of Grewia robusta are often clustered at the tips of small spur-branchlets on short petioles.

They are slightly asymmetrical and elliptic to ovate in shape, sometimes almost round, the tips obtusely tapering or rounded and the bases rounded or lobed as in picture. The margins are bluntly toothed or scalloped, sometimes irregularly. Leaf dimensions are 13 mm to 25 mm long and 10 mm to 20 mm wide.

Leaf colour, lighter on the young leaves here, becomes dark green on top and paler grey-green on the lower surfaces where short hairs may be present, also on the older leathery leaves. Young leaves start off whitish, soft and hairy.

The blades may curve in from the lateral margins or folded in along the midrib. They are three-veined from the base with a few more ascending lateral veins (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist).
