Grewia villosa leaves

The crinkled leaf surface of Grewia villosa bulges in parallel oblong patches between the firm lines of the sunken veins. The detail of these patches appear like tiny warty protrusions, irregular in shape.

Two lateral veins flank the midrib, emerging from the notable white spot at the leaf base. Upper veins ascend in nearly parallel fashion from the midrib to the margins where some of them have a few visible branches. The lowermost pair of lateral veins have side-veins to their outside (nearer the margin), similar to those emerging from the midrib.

The venation is prominent upon the paler lower leaf surface covered in rough hairs, coloured cream or brownish. Leaf marginal serration is irregular but finely shaped; some hairy patches occur along the margin. The leaf petiole becomes up to 4 cm long (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; iNaturalist).
