Crocosmia aurea in flower

The Crocosmia aurea inflorescence is often branched, the flowers stalkless. The buds are cylindrical and round-tipped, turning orange as opening approaches. The small opposing bracts subtending each flower are green and notch-tipped. They often dry early, at least at their tips.

The tepal lobes of the open flower are nearly oblong and round-tipped or pointed.

The anthers are oblong, the style longer than the stamens, its branches diverging (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Pooley, 1998; Moriarty, 1997).
