Cotyledon orbiculata orange inside

This orange-flowering Cotyledon orbiculata was seen in the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden during March. It shows the brightest of its floral colouring on the insides of the recurving segment lobes, at the lower ends of the pendulous flowers.

These inside segment surfaces are reddish towards their margins, orange to yellow in the centre, the brown anthers dangling well below the corollas. Only the oldest flower manages some red blush on the perianth exterior.

The beak-like buds are pale and powdery, only the smallest ones facing up still. Few, tiny bracts are spaced on the flower stalks that branch and zigzag slightly.
