Huernia loeseneriana in the lap of luxury

Pampered Huernia loeseneriana plants may display their stem tubercles more intact, sharply pointed and a little longer, particularly on recently matured upper stems. The stems and tubercles are soft though, the cause of wear and tear in the wild. Even here the sharpness of youth is gradually lost.

Life’s manifold mishaps may occur anywhere, however, such as losing a limb in a botanical garden, as happened to this plant in the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden. Purplish and yellowish colouring is present towards the narrowed tips, the stems in picture greener low down as life leaves its marks.
