    Osteospermum scariosum leaves

    Osteospermum scariosum leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The alternate leaves of Osteospermum scariosum are stalkless and lance-shaped to oblong, tapering to acutely pointed tips. Lower leaves taper gradually at the base. Leaf dimensions are about 3 cm long and 1 cm wide.

A leaf may be channelled by its margins curving up, while the blade may curve down along its midrib. The margins are sparsely but sharply toothed to somewhat pinnately cut; up to four teeth occur on each side.

The variably green blades are hairy, the hairs sometimes dense and long (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; JSTOR).
