    Mimusops zeyheri in the Waterberg

    Mimusops zeyheri in the Waterberg
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Eric Aspeling

Mimusops zeyheri too big to hide in habitat here, grows branches down to ground level in its shrub-like guise, en route to becoming a proper tree.

The rounded crown is dense as usual, often making this the preferred option for hikers to get out of the sun for a while, once the tree is tall enough for accommodating its visitors. The Waterberg where the photo was taken can be very hot in summer (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993; Codd, 1951; iNaturalist).
