    Eriocephalus africanus var. paniculatus flowerheads

    Eriocephalus africanus var. paniculatus flowerheads
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The flowerheads of Eriocephalus africanus var. paniculatus grow in flat-topped clusters, mostly at stem-tips, but also from upper leaf axils. The peduncles are up to 1 cm long and flowerhead diameter is also about 1 cm.

Three or four white rays spread around the tiny mauve disc florets, occasionally seen with exserted orange-yellow anthers. The short, broad rays usually have slight folds and scalloped tips.

Flowering happens from mid-autumn to spring (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Gledhill, 1981; iNaturalist).
