Aspalathus asparagoides subsp. asparagoides is an erect, more than spreading shrub of about 1 m. Young branches are hairy, losing the hairs with age.
The species distribution is in the south of the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape, from Caledon to Gqeberha. The photo was taken near Greyton.
The habitat is fynbos and renosterveld slopes, mainly in clayey soils. The subspecies is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
