Psydrax obovata subsp. obovata fruit

The fruits of Psydrax obovata subsp. obovata are drupes that grow in clusters on long peduncles. They start off green and narrow, becoming ovoid and black when ripe. The often slightly bilobed fruit has a shallow groove between the lobes when two of them are present. Fruit dimensions are 5 mm to 9 mm long by 7 mm to 8 mm wide.

Fruits are usually seen on the trees from before midautumn through winter. They are eaten by birds.

The sweetly scented flowers before the fruits grew from leaf axils in 8- to 70-flowered, tight corymbs near stem-tips.

They are small and white, turning cream or yellowish with age, their floral parts in fours or fives. The short calyx tube is lobed, the corolla tube and lobes longer. These corolla lobes are narrow and recurve (Venter, 2012; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
