    Delosperma carolinense

    Delosperma carolinense
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Delosperma carolinense is a small, succulent-leaf perennial growing few very short branches that form a compact clump at ground level. This mesemb is not the only one or even the only one in the Delosperma genus called a klipvygie (stone mesemb) in Afrikaans.

The species distribution is in the Free State and Mpumalanga, as well as beyond the South African border.

The habitat is rocky slopes and ridges in grassland where the plants grow in summer rainfall conditions. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
