Esterhuysenia drepanophylla leaves

The leaves of Esterhuysenia drepanophylla grow in equal, opposite pairs. They are short, keeled, triangular to bulging in cross-section. The sickle-shaped leaf bodies curve in towards their blunt tips that end in tiny mucros. The surface colours are deep green to pale green, sometimes turned partly red or purplish, particularly near the tips. The surface texture is smooth to faintly mottled or papillate.

The specific name, drepanophylla, is derived from the Greek words drepanon meaning sickle and phullon meaning leaf, referring to the leaf-shape (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
